You’re the expert in your industry and you understand the potential customer because your helping them gain valuable knowledge they are searching for. This is what fundamentally draws people to you. Once you start promoting your business, providing valuable content and establishing yourself as an expert, when all is going well you will have people approach you wanting to join your team, you know what that means..
“Ahh, you mean I have to talk to someone?”
Yes, not only talk to someone, help him or her set up, mentor and inspire them as they progress on their entrepreneurial journey. Here are some tips to help you get started. I would recommend two books “How To Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie and Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott are a great start.
Here are some tips to help you better engage in your overall communication;
Listening– “It is better to listen in order to understand than to listen in order to reply”. Unknown. To truly engage with someone you need to be willing to listen. This will help you to be present, in the moment. People talk verbally and non verbally, be present so you can pick up on all levels. Picture this, your having a conversation with someone and the other person is not listening to you at all. It seems they just have better things to do with their time rather than talk to you, would you want to join in a business with them? Of course not, you would finish the conversation and hang up. To consciously listen doesn’t mean your Dr Phil and have to listen to peoples problems for hours on end, it’s about being present in every conversation.
Say my name. “Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” Dale Carnegie. Make a conscious effort to take note of people’s name. If you find it hard to pronounce, ask for the right pronunciation and say it in the first couple of minutes while in the conversation to help you remember it. Everyone, doesn’t matter who they are appreciates when someone makes the effort to remember and call them by their name.
Ask open ended questions. When thinking about what you want to say to someone to help gain a better understanding of who they are or any specific topic, always place the following words at the start of your sentence;What,Where,Who,Why and How. A classic example would be for a Sales Assistant comes up to you and asks you “Are you OK?” You would probably reply “Yes.” How has that question help the Sales Assistant in understanding what you need? It hasn’t…OK try again… “How can I help you?” Whether the person is fine or not, it requires more of a detailed reply and that’s how the Sales Assistant can obtain the information he/she needs.
Smile your on the phone. It may sound silly but to smile while talking on the phone actually alters the tone of your voice. So smile, it helps lighten up the mood for yourself and for the other person. Smiling in general helps people to warm to you in general. If one of your marketing strategies is video marketing, you will find out soon enough whether you smile enough.
Most of all be yourself, be willing to learn more about other people, remember the focus is on them, you don’t want to make the hard sell, ever in every conversation!! Your aim is to find people that are independent, persistent and hungry to succeed and your focus is to be the inspiring leader to help point them in the right direction. Its their own entrepreneur journey, you can only point them in the direction of the mountain, they need to climb it themselves.
