Hi everyone; I’m looking for some help with deciding what webhosts I should be considering to move to. We’ve been using Dreamhost for the past couple of years, but it seems like our needs are outgrowing their platform. . . and after a disappointing experience with their professional services, we’ve decided to start looking elsewhere for our hosting.
Our site is based around daily news and we post numerous new articles a day. We’re currently sitting at about 7100 posts. Right now InMotion’s new WordPress VPS hosting plans look like a solid option and are in our price range; but I’m wondering what else is out there that we should be looking at.
I’m fairly computer savvy and can absorb technical info pretty easily, but there’s a lot that I’m lost on when it comes to Web server specs and what I should be looking for/at.
* **What is your monthly budget?**
* We’d like to stay under $200 a month, right now we’re spending about $90.
* **Where are you/your users located?**
* Wordwide
* **What kind of site are you hosting (WordPress, phpBB, custom software, etc) or what is your use case?**
* WordPress
* **Do you have a monthly traffic volume? Estimates are ok.**
* It varies depending on the news cycle, but we’ve had some months where we’ve hit over 400k and we’re growing, so we expect that to keep increasing.
* **If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure?**
* None at all.
* **Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I’ve personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people.**
* Yes, KnownHost looks like it might be an option, but at a glance, the specs/options at InMotion look a bit better.
I know eventually I’m going to have to hire someone to take care of the backend of the website, but we’re not quite there yet. For now, I’m looking for something I can easily manage on my own, gives us the power/speed we want/need, and has a support team I can reach out to if something breaks and I can’t figure it out.
