When things get slow and you don’t want to sound desperate.

I’m just getting back to freelancing after about a month off for my daughter’s birth. I’ve had some work here and there, but a lot of my regular clients aren’t throwing me a ton of work. I’ve reached out to them and it sounds like they may have some promising stuff, but it’s still slow. I try to be friendly and engaged with my clients. I honestly do like a lot of them. When I’m asking for work, I feel weird even though I know it’s necessary. Anyone have specific advice for this?
